Anxiety and Panic Attacks

Don’t Let Your Mind’s "Disaster Scenarios" Control You

Feeling constantly on edge, experiencing sudden heart palpitations, or living with the persistent fear that "something bad is going to happen"... This isn't a personality trait; it is a treatable system error.

Anxiety is essentially the brain pressing the "Danger" button at the wrong time. In our clinic, we reprogram this alarm system using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). We don’t just talk; we delve into the biological roots of anxiety with the support of our Gynecologist (Hormones) and Dietitian (Gut-Brain Axis).

Your Body is Talking—Are You Listening?

Anxiety is more than just "worrying"; it is a physical experience:

  • Mental: Persistent "What if?" questions, focus issues, and the fear of losing control or "going crazy."

  • Heart & Breath: Chest tightness, palpitations, and air hunger (feeling like you can't get enough oxygen).

  • Gastrointestinal: Stomach cramps, nausea, or sudden bathroom urgency (the "second brain" response).

  • Sleep: Difficulty falling asleep, teeth grinding (bruxism), or waking up exhausted.

Which Type of Anxiety Are You Experiencing?

  1. Panic Attack / Panic Disorder Sudden, intense fear of death or a heart attack lasting 10–20 minutes. Feel: "I honestly thought I was dying."

  2. Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) A constant state of apprehension and uncontrollable worry throughout the day without a specific cause. Feel: "I feel uneasy, like I’m about to receive bad news at any moment."

  3. Social Phobia (Social Anxiety) Fear of being judged by others, being humiliated, or making a mistake. Feel: "Everyone is looking at me; what if I turn red?"

  4. Health Anxiety (Hypochondriasis) Attributing even the slightest bodily sensation to a terminal illness. Feel: "My head hurts; I must have a tumor."

The Cause of Your Anxiety May Not Be "Just Psychological"

As a holistic wellness center, we manage the psychological process while screening for biological factors:

  • Gynecology Integration (Hormones): Hormonal fluctuations during Menopause, PMS, or PCOS can lower serotonin levels in the brain, triggering anxiety. We manage this process in tandem with our gynecologist.

  • Dietitian and the "Second Brain": 95% of serotonin (the happiness hormone) is produced in the gut. A disrupted gut flora (dysbiosis) is a direct cause of anxiety. Our dietitian supports your therapy biologically with "Gut Repair Nutrition" (GAPS/Elimination).

  • CBT (The Gold Standard): We apply scientifically proven Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. We don't just listen; we provide you with homework, techniques, and tools to manage your anxiety.

How Our Therapy Process Works

  1. Assessment: In the first session, we take your life history and use scales to measure your anxiety levels.

  2. Psycho-education: You learn the mechanics of anxiety (the Fight-or-Flight response). You get to know your "enemy."

  3. Cognitive Intervention: We identify those "Disaster Scenarios" (distorted thoughts) that frighten you and replace them with realistic perspectives.

  4. Behavioral Intervention: Gradual exposure exercises are conducted for situations you avoid (e.g., using an elevator or entering crowds).

The Wolistic Advice: The "Vaginismus and Sexual Anxiety" Connection An anxious mind also tenses the body. Women experiencing generalized anxiety often face Vaginismus (inability to have intercourse) or low libido. In our clinic, we solve this through a "Holistic Sexual Therapy" protocol involving the collaboration of our Psychologist and Gynecologist.

Frequently Asked Questions About Anxiety and Anxiety Disorders

Can a panic attack lead to a heart attack? Will my heart stop?
No. During a panic attack, your heart beats very fast (tachycardia) because the body enters "Fight or Flight" mode and pumps blood to the muscles. This is the exact same mechanism as your heart racing while exercising. A healthy heart will not stop or suffer a heart attack because of a panic attack. If your cardiology tests are clear, what you are feeling is purely adrenaline.
I feel like I'm choking; I can't get enough air. What should I do?
This sensation is called "Air Hunger." In reality, you feel this way not because you aren't getting enough oxygen, but because you are breathing too rapidly and shallowly out of fear (Hyperventilation). This disrupts the balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in your blood.
I feel dizzy, like I’m going to faint. Will I pass out?
The feeling of fainting is very common during a panic attack, but actual fainting (syncope) is extremely rare. This is because fainting requires a drop in blood pressure; however, during a panic attack, your blood pressure and heart rate actually rise. Therefore, it is biologically almost impossible for you to faint.
Am I losing my mind? Am I going crazy?
No. During periods of intense anxiety, you may experience a feeling of being detached from reality (Derealization). The world around you might seem strange, foggy, or artificial. This is simply a defense mechanism the brain uses against extreme stress. It is not a sign of schizophrenia or "going crazy." Once the attack passes, this feeling disappears completely.
What if I lose control and harm myself or someone else?
Anxiety patients actually tend to over-control themselves precisely because they fear "losing control." The fear of causing harm (Obsession) is not the same as the act of causing harm. To date, no panic attack patient has ever lost control and committed an unwanted act during an attack.
How will these physical symptoms disappear just by talking?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is not just "having a chat." It is more like installing new software into your brain. The Mechanism: As long as you think, "My heart is racing, I’m dying," your brain continues to pump out more adrenaline. In therapy, when we restructure this faulty thought pattern (Cognition), the brain stops triggering the alarm, and the physical symptoms (Behavior/Body) automatically fade away.
Will I become addicted if I use medication?
No. The antidepressants used in modern psychiatry (SSRI group) are not addictive. They work by balancing the substance (Serotonin) that your brain is lacking. On the other hand, "Red Prescription" sedatives (Benzodiazepines) are used only for short durations and under strict medical supervision. If medication is necessary, our Psychiatrist will manage the process in the safest possible manner.
Does anxiety go away completely? Or will it be with me for life?
Anxiety is a manageable condition. Once you learn to correctly calibrate the alarm system in your brain through therapy, even if feelings of anxiety arise, they will no longer frighten you or restrict your life. You won't return to your former state of helplessness because you will now have the techniques in your "toolbox" to cope with it effectively.
Does drinking coffee trigger panic attacks?
Yes. Caffeine is a powerful stimulant that can cause heart palpitations. An anxious mind may interpret this caffeine-induced racing heart as "A Panic Attack is Starting." In the initial stages of treatment, we recommend restricting coffee, cola, and energy drinks.
My gut is constantly upset (Gas, Bloating). Does this have anything to do with anxiety?
Absolutely. Our gut is known as the "Second Brain." Intense anxiety disrupts intestinal movements, often leading to IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). The Holistic Solution: A psychologist alone may not be enough. Our Dietitian supports your therapy process with a gluten-free, probiotic-heavy nutrition plan designed to repair your gut flora. Once the gut calms down, the mind follows.
Can vitamin deficiencies cause anxiety?
Yes. Deficiencies in Vitamin B12, Magnesium, Iron, and Vitamin D specifically can lead to irritability, heart palpitations, and a low tolerance for stress. In our clinic, we check your blood values before starting therapy and replenish any deficiencies. Mental healing is difficult to achieve without first correcting the biological foundation.
