Trauma, Phobia & Grief Therapy, EMDR

We Can’t Change the Past, But We Can Erase Its Grip.

An accident, a loss, or a painful childhood memory... Even if your mind says "it's over," is your body still reacting as if it’s happening right now?

Trauma is like a piece of information that the brain cannot "digest"; it gets stuck. Years may pass, but a specific sound or smell can instantly transport you back to that moment of terror. With EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), we unlock those "frozen" memories and help your brain archive them healthily.

EMDR: Activating the Brain’s "Self-Healing Mode"

Every night during REM sleep, our eyes move back and forth to process and "clear" the day's stress. However, during a major trauma (natural disasters, assault, accidents), the brain's processing system jams, and the memory freezes along with all the original fear and pain.

  • The Method: Under the guidance of a therapist, we stimulate the left and right hemispheres of the brain using eye movements, rhythmic taps, or auditory tones (Bilateral Stimulation).

  • The Manual Reset: This process manually completes the "digestion" that the brain left unfinished.

  • The Result: You don't forget the event, but when you remember it, your heart no longer races and your stomach no longer knots. You simply think, "It happened, and it is over."

How Can We Help You?

1. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

Relates to "Big T" traumas like earthquakes, traffic accidents, or physical assaults.

  • Symptoms: Flashbacks, hyper-vigilance, and insomnia.

2. Complex Childhood Trauma (Neglect/Abuse)

Relates to "small t" traumas—the accumulation of constant belittling, lack of affection, or physical/sexual abuse.

  • Symptoms: Deep feelings of unworthiness and difficulty trusting others.

3. Phobias (Flying, Animals, Enclosed Spaces)

90% of phobias are the result of a locked traumatic memory from the past.

  • The Solution: Once EMDR desensitizes that initial moment of fear, the phobia often vanishes.

4. Pathological Grief

Feeling the pain of a loss as if it happened "only yesterday," even though years have passed.

Your Trauma May Be the Root of Other Health Issues.

We believe that "The Body Keeps the Score."

  • The Vaginismus & Gynecology Link: For women unable to have intercourse (Vaginismus), there is often a hidden trauma or a frightening "first night" story. Once our Gynecologist rules out physical barriers, our EMDR Therapist steps in to clear the trauma and liberate the body.

  • Eating Disorders & Dietetics: Many people who struggle to lose weight or engage in Binge Eating are actually "Emotional Eaters." You may be using food to suppress a childhood trauma. Our Dietitian and EMDR Therapist work together to resolve the emotion hidden beneath the hunger.

A Real-Life Example: "The Elevator Phobia"

The Case: A 35-year-old businessman. As a child, his brother locked him in a closet as a prank. For 20 years, he couldn't use elevators and walked up 10 flights of stairs daily. The Solution: After 4 sessions of EMDR, the "closet memory" was desensitized. The Result: He now uses elevators with ease and simply laughs when he recalls the old memory.

Frequently Asked Questions About Trauma, Phobia, Grief, and EMDR Therapy

How can moving my eyes back and forth heal me? Is this magic?
No, it is pure Neurobiology. The Mechanism: Every night while you dream (REM sleep), your eyes move involuntarily from side to side. During this phase, the brain processes the day's events and "archives" them. However, during traumatic events (accidents, natural disasters, assault), the brain is overwhelmed by terror and fails to perform this processing; the memory becomes "frozen." The Process: With EMDR, while you are awake, we manually trigger this mechanism (Bilateral Stimulation) using finger tracking or auditory tones. We are essentially telling the brain, "Finish the job you left incomplete." It is not magic; it is simply activating the brain's innate capacity for self-healing.
Will I be hypnotized during EMDR? Will I lose consciousness?
Absolutely not. In hypnosis, your state of consciousness is altered; however, in EMDR, you are 100% conscious and alert. Control: You see the room, you hear the sounds, and you can say "Stop" at any moment. The therapist does not control you; they simply act as a guide on your journey. It is one of the safest methods for those who have a fear of losing control.
Will you erase my memories? Will I forget my childhood?
No, your memory is not erased. We do not delete the "information" of the memory; we perform Emotional Neutralization. The Example: Currently, when you remember that accident, your heart races and your stomach knots (this is an Active Memory). Once EMDR is complete, you will still remember the accident, but you will feel neutral and calm—as if you are looking at an old, faded photograph on a wall.
Will I be re-traumatized while facing my trauma?
One of the greatest advantages of EMDR is that you are not required to describe the event in minute detail. The Method: You won't "drown" in the experience. Instead, we enable you to observe the event from a distance—much like looking out the window of a fast-moving train. To protect you, your therapist teaches you "Safe Place" exercises at the beginning of the sessions. If the pain becomes overwhelming, we immediately guide you back to that safe mental harbor.
How will I feel after the session? What is an "EMDR Hangover"?
Your brain continues to process and work even after the session is over. The Symptoms: Within the first 24 hours after a session, you may experience a slight headache, intense fatigue, or a sense of "grogginess" (Hangover), as if you have been dreaming vividly. This is actually a great sign—it indicates that your neurons are successfully rewiring. These feelings pass quickly with plenty of rest and water.
Will my dreams change? Will I have nightmares?
Yes, during the treatment process, your dreams may become more vivid, or you might experience "nonsense" or complex dreams. The Reality: This is simply the brain's "file organization" process. It is nothing to be afraid of; it is a natural and necessary part of the healing journey as your mind reorganizes and archives past events.
Can EMDR be performed while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Since EMDR is a drug-free method, there is no chemical risk involved. Pregnancy: However, because the process can trigger intense emotional releases, we do not recommend it for "High-Risk Pregnancies" to avoid increasing stress. For healthy pregnancies, it can be performed with physician approval using gentler protocols. Breastfeeding: It can be performed safely; there are no medications involved that could pass into the breast milk.
My child is very afraid (school phobia/exam anxiety). Can it be performed on children?
Yes. In fact, EMDR often yields results even faster in children than in adults. The Technique: Since "eye-tracking" can be difficult for children, we use specialized pediatric protocols integrated with play therapy. This might involve using puppets or rhythmic tapping on the shoulders (known as the Butterfly Hug) rather than traditional visual cues. This makes the healing process feel safe and engaging for them.
I am taking antidepressants; can I still do EMDR?
Yes. Taking medication is not an obstacle to EMDR therapy. On the contrary, because medication helps suppress excessive anxiety, it can actually make it easier for you to face your traumas comfortably during sessions. However, you should never stop taking your medication on your own. It is essential to proceed in coordination with our Psychiatrist to ensure a balanced and safe therapeutic process.
How many sessions does EMDR take? Is a one-session miracle possible?
Single Incident Trauma: If you are dealing with a one-time event (e.g., a car accident last year or a dog bite), 3 to 6 sessions are generally sufficient. Complex Trauma: If there is a pattern of neglect, abuse, or belittling dating back to childhood, untangling this "knot" takes time. This may require 10–20 sessions or more. Let’s Be Realistic: It is impossible to "reset" everything in a single session. The brain is not a computer; it is a biological organ that requires time to process and heal.
Is Online EMDR (via Zoom/Skype) as effective as face-to-face sessions?
Scientific research has proven that Online EMDR is just as effective as in-person therapy. How is it done? We use specialized software where you follow a ball moving back and forth across your screen, or we provide rhythmic audio tones through your headphones that alternate between your right and left ears. Being in the comfort of your own home—your personal "safe space"—can sometimes make the process even smoother and more accessible.
How will I know I have healed?
When you think back to a memory that used to make you cry or cause your chest to tighten, and you find that you can now simply say, "Yes, this happened to me; it was sad, but it is over," you have healed. The true sign of recovery is the absence of a physical reaction—no more racing heart, no more cold sweats. The event has finally moved out of your "Today" and has been placed on the "Past" shelf where it belongs.
Can EMDR be used for heartbreak or an obsession with an ex-partner?
Absolutely. Research shows that heartbreak activates the same centers in the brain as physical pain. The Application: We use EMDR to target core beliefs like "I can't live without them" or "I am worthless," as well as the traumatic images associated with the moment of abandonment or betrayal. You won't forget the person, but the "addictive level of longing and pain" you feel toward them will be neutralized, allowing you to regain your emotional independence.
